Walking into PDS 1 I was very nervous and unsure of what to expect. After our orientation and getting to find out who our mentor was, I was much more relaxed and ready to conquer the semester and very glad to have a mentor who understands me. Walking into the schools for the first time and meeting all the teachers and principals was very scary.
Then, just when I was attached to my school and thinking how much I would love to work there, it was time to switch. My first campus was a much different from my experience than my second campus, although I feel I have had a chance to learn and do things at each school. I also thought the children would all be a certain way since that’s what I had seen up until this point. It was definitely a shock to have students who didn’t listen when I asked them to do something.
I am not sure what I expected my methods courses to be like, but I definitely was not prepared for the amount of work each assignment takes and having at least five assignments to work on at one time. I have always been a planner, but PDS 1 has made that a requirement. Another thing PDS 1has helped me with is thinking on my feet and being able to adapt to different situations.
So far, PDS 1 has been a difficult but rewarding experience. I am looking forward to the craziness being done and over with for longer than a weekend. I am grateful for the friendships I have made with my cadre mates. I know we would all be there for one another if someone needed something. I want to say thank you to my cadre for being my rocks through this step to the rest of our lives.
